A Macon Miracle

The final day of summer break was a really great day for our family. We spent a great morning at Life Center with great people and after that we had the opportunity to spend the afternoon at what had to be the most beautiful home I have ever been inside of with a group of amazing people!

Eli’s team the Macon Impact had their team party at the grandparent’s home of one of the boys. We got to spend the day outside, swimming, playing whiffle ball, feeding horses and riding around the property in golf carts. All in all it was a great time.

Those things however were not even the highlight of my day if you can believe that! We got home and were getting ready for bed when Emery walks into the living room and I could tell she had something to say. Now if you know Emery this is not an unusual occurrence, but this time was different, very excitedly she said, “ Momma today I got a revelation”. I asked her what she meant and she said, “I was worshiping in church this morning and we started singing a song that I didn’t know the words too. Usually I would just stand there but I lifted my hands and closed my eyes and I realized I could worship without any words.”

I am pretty sure that Matt and I were both teary eyed at this point. I was so excited to know that my daughter is hearing the voice of God. We asked her who told her that she could worship that way and she said nobody. This was a great teaching moment; we were able to tell her that it was the Holy Spirit who spoke that to her spirit. I love that the Holy Spirit cares about the lives of my children, that at 7 years old she is learning how to worship God.

This morning as Matt and I were taking the kids to their first day of school I was reminded of the prayer that Matt prayed in church yesterday morning. We took a few minutes during service to pray for the students and teachers who would be starting school today and as Matt began to pray he was talking about our new superintendent’s initiative called the “Macon Miracle.”

This initiative is full of changes to curriculum and discipline, an overhaul to Bibb County schools. As we began to pray I believe the Lord spoke something through Matt. He said that it is only Jesus who can change our failing school system. It is only through Christ at work in our children and our teachers that true change can be seen. Jesus is the miracle that Macon schools need.

It is during times of worship when the Holy Spirit speaks to our children and teaches them how to live for him that will eventually make a change in our schools. It is because parents are willing to set an example for their kids about the importance of being in the presence of God that our city will be changed. It is only through people that God can work. He placed His spirit on the inside of us so that we could BE THE CHANGE FOR OUR CITY! I believe God wants to do something in the city of Macon and I believe he wants to use our families to do so. Not just pastors and leaders, not just church attenders, but our teenagers and our children.

Let’s put our kids in a position to hear from God! Let’s speak life over our schools and our kids. All of us have influence in the lives of children in one way or another. We have been given an opportunity to steward their lives and see the miraculous at work in them.

“Jesus today I pray that the lives of our children would be changed. I ask that the kids would feel your presence in a real and powerful way. In the schools I pray that they would be the light shining in a dark place, that our kids would speak life over their classrooms and their friends. Allow the work of your Holy Spirit to transform the schools from the inside out. I ask that You, Jesus would be the miracle that Macon schools need this year. In Jesus Name AMEN”
