A little random...but happy

I have gotten in the habit of writing blog posts that are serious. I try to be encouraging and helpful to someone out there. I realized however that these type of blog posts are kind of stressing me out, feeling like I have to come up with something profound or clever is hard work for this girl, mostly because I am naturally not a very serious person. What ends up happening is that I don’t write for weeks until I get a new revelation or something. So today I decided to just write, this may be sort of a random post, but it’s my blog and I can write what I want…

Matt and I were talking last night about being positive people. You know the type of people who see the good in everything. There are times that we are those people. Then there are times when we are negative, really negative, like throw a pity party for yourself kind of negative. Those are the people we have been lately, but that all changes today.

Today I am choosing to focus on the good things going on in my life. I decided to make a list, so here it is….

1. Every night when I go to bed (in a house where we are safe and I have a wonderful husband and four amazing, healthy kids) I think about waking up in the morning and making coffee. Yes, every night I get excited about drinking coffee in the morning. Am I the only one who does this?

 2.  I got to eat donuts from  daylight donuts, which are so similiar to donuts from Donut world, the donut shop that used to be across from my dad's shop when I was growing up.  This makes me happy but also very, very nervous.

3.  Joyce Meyer  and Christine Caine also know what it is like to be a "Prisoner of Hope"

4.  Cooper had 3 sacks in his game on Tuesday while playing defensive back(*edit: it was actually defensive end), Matt's old position.  I am not sure if Matt has ever been more proud.

5.  The other day Lilah and I were jumping on the trampoline and she said, “my mommy doesn’t go to work anymore. I don’t cry anymore because my mommy doesn’t go to work.” That puts every financial burden and worry into perspective for me. Rather than focusing on what we need or what we don’t have I can focus on the choice we made so I could spend my mornings with Lilah Jane.

6.  I have had the opportunity to coach middle school volleyball at one of the private schools in town this fall. Not only has it given me the chance to play volleyball again but it has been so rewarding to watch girls learn the game. Last week we won our second game. We had girls serving 9 and 10 points who couldn’t get the ball over the net at the beginning of the season. This makes me happy.

7. Yesterday Matt had the opportunity to share his testimony at a local high school. He led many teenagers to the Lord by sharing what God has done in his life and the restoration that has taken place. Also Cassia (www.cassiamusic.net) (the craziest and most fun band ever) was able to go and    play and  share their new music with all those kids. This is the answer to prayers we have all prayed, opportunities to get into high schools and share the gospel!

8. Last night the twins had a baseball game.  Emery has had many strike outs over the last two weeks. She did hit the ball once but forgot to run to first base. Last night not only did she hit the ball and run to first, but she was safe!  My dreams for her sports career remain in tact.

Overall my life is pretty amazing. Sure there are issues I could focus on and become stressed and overwhelmed. Sure I could look to those issues and allow them to dictate to me the kind of mood I will have today. Last week God challenged me to do one thing, Fix my eyes on Jesus. That is what I am trying to do, when things look bad or when my attitude really stinks, I can make a decision to fix my eyes on Christ, to see the good things, to be positive.

Sometimes it helps to make a list. Maybe that is what we should all do today. Make a list of all the positive things in our lives; choose to focus on them, lets be people who are positive and fun! I bet when you lay down in bed tonight you have a brighter outlook for tomorrow.
