Our Weekend...In Pictures

Last weekend was a very, very busy weekend for us. It was full of activities and events. Even more importantly than that it was full of family and friends. I thought it would be fun to do a post of pictures, so I refrained from posting any pictures this weekend, which was very difficult for me so that I could present this post... My weekend in pictures...

Friday started with session one of The Beautiful Girl Workshop. This is a self esteem workshop I have the opportunity to teach at Heritage Elementary. These beautiful paintings are what some of the girls created to show what is unique and special about themselves.

Friday night we decided to go bowling with some of our youth and youth leaders. Events like these confuse my children. They begin to think that they are teenagers and they learn things they shouldn't and come home with a little extra attitude.

Attitude that we are obviously not in short supply of...

Saturday morning I woke up early to run 10 miles! The last time I attempted to do 10 miles I had to call Matt to come pick me up so I was a little nervous about this run. Especially because in less than two weeks I will be running 13 miles with thousands of people! This time however I did it and my wonderful husband rewarded me with Daylight Donuts... don't judge me.

Saturday afternoon we watched the Covenant Rams win their second game of the season. We were very proud to watch Cooper score four touchdowns. This season is a little bitter sweet because at the end of it Matt's brother and his family will be moving back to Nebraska taking our niece and nephews with them. So watching Cooper and Adam play football together has been extra special.

Our Saturday was still not finished! We snuck in a few hours of Husker football with the family and headed to celebrate our friend Tony aka "The Beast" who will be attempting and completing his first Iron Man race. He will be doing this ridiculously long race while I run a measly 13.1 miles... puts things in perspective a little..don't you think?

After a great service on Sunday and a quick nap we had our first leadership meeting with some of the kids from our youth ministry. We decided to take them to Rose Hill Cemetery. A little on the creepy side but a perfect place to talk to them about their legacy. A perfect setting to sit down and reflect on what they want their lives to say and what they will do with the gifts and talents that have been given to them.

I really loved the inscription on this marker, "Thou God of Love beneath they sheltering wing we leave our dead to rest in hope"

Rest in Hope.

As our teenagers sat and wrote I took a minute to read Ecclesiastes 3. It seemed appropriate being in a graveyard and all. As I read verses 11-12 I realized how lucky I am and how great my weekend really was.

"11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
12 So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can."

I can say that this weekend we were happy and we enjoyed ourselves. All the worry and all the concerns of life can steal our happiness and the joy of being surrounded by people we love. I am encouraged to make the most out of my life, out of each day. I hope that you will be encouraged to do the same.
