For The Love of The Game

There is something that takes over me when I hear the playing of our national anthem while sitting...excuse me standing at a ballpark.  Even more so when one of my sons is standing at the ESPN wide world of sports about to take the field.  I will admit it, I was a little teary eyed.  Can I just go ahead and say it, I LOVE BASEBALL.  I always thought my mom was a crazy lady cheering for my brother for year when I was little, even still my mom is a fan.  I have memories of my childhood with the radio on, Harry Carey blaring loudly through the whole house announcing the cubs games and better yet, singing the 7th inning stretch.

So it is no surprise that my family is a baseball family.  We are 3 days into a 2 week baseball tour.  Cooper playing in Orlando for a week and then Eli playing in Orange Beach.  My hope is that each day's mood and energy level is not determined by how well the team plays that day, however we are extremely competitive so I will not be delusional in believing it won't effect our mood.  For the most part we are pretty laid back and having a great time at the pool and at the dinner table.  The best part for us as a family is that we are together, not each of us going somewhere different or passing each other on the way out the door.  We are here, together.

As a child we were not big vacation takers.   We had a couple big ones, D.C. and the Grand Canyon which were very memorable.  Especially since my brother, sister and I had to ride in the back of my dad's chevy truck with a topper.  Chad we usually tormenting us on both of these trips and honestly that is what I remember most.  Matt and I decided a long time ago that we would take vacations.  What were are doing for the next two weeks may seem crazy but for us it is just what we needed.

We are so blessed to be on travel ball teams with people we love.  The boys coaches are really good and love the boys and the families we get to spend each weekend with have become like family.  There is not a lot of drama or back biting, for the most part we all really enjoy being together.

So for the next two weeks I am going to try and post about our trip and give you, friend, a glimpse into the crazy and exciting life of a travel ball family.  After all we do it for the love of the game....

And our kids of course.
